Foundation Laid for River Lighthouses on Brahmaputra Waterway

The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stones for India’s first riverine lighthouses along the Brahmaputra River on National Waterway 2 (NW-2). The initiative aims to enhance navigation safety and improve infrastructure on the important inland waterway.   The proposed riverine lighthouses will help guide vessels navigating the Brahmaputra, particularly during night and low-visibility conditions, thereby strengthening inland water transport in the region.
