The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued a 21-year-old Indian fisherman with second-degree burns on the left side of his body on the midnight of 07 August 2024. The incident occurred on board the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Sengalamman, about 183 km off Kakinada coast (Andhra Pradesh).
On receiving the distress call from Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai on 06 August 2024, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai diverted the route of ICG ship 'Samudra Pahardar' to render timely assistance. Also, ICG Station Kakinada was informed to arrange for necessary medical assistance on arrival of the patient. The ship evacuated the fisherman from the boat and the Medical Officer on board the ICG ship provided initial treatment to stabilise the patient.
After treatment, the fisherman was transferred to ICG ship C-430 for onward journey to Kakinada. The patient was taken to Government Hospital Kakinada for further medical care.
