The terminology defining diseases has been incorporated in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha systems of medicine in the World Health Organisation's (ICD) 11th revision, the AYUSH ministry said on Wednesday. This will bring global uniformity across Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medicines as a code to define diseases. The ministry said that with the launch of ICD 11 Traditional Medicine Module 2 by the World Health Organization on Wednesday, preparations for its implementation have begun.
“Data and terminology related to diseases based on Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicine have been included in the WHO ICD-11 classification,” the ministry said in its statement. The Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with WHO has prepared the classification of diseases used in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems under the TM-2 module of the ICD-11 series. A donor agreement for this classification was earlier signed between WHO and the Ministry of AYUSH.
The statement said this effort will further strengthen and expand India's healthcare delivery system, research, AYUSH insurance coverage, research and development, policy making system. Moreover, these codes can also be used to create future strategies to control various diseases.
